Fandom: SGA, High School AU
Disclaimer: The characters and concepts belong to MGM and the Sci-Fi Channel (SGA) and Touchstone Pictures (Can't Buy Me Love). Several of the lines used come from one source or the other, but I'm pretty confident in saying those make up less than 1% of the story. This story was a labor of love and no money was made from its distribution.
This story would not exist without the help and friendship of many people. Domenika Marzione plied me with music and food and sat me in her big brown chair and demanded I write. She provided the soundtrack I used for months and months and am using as I write this. Control_Freak80 helped me brainstorm over lunch, over AIM, and over a really strange dinner at which the people behind us thought we were eavesdropping on their dating foibles when really we were plotting terrible things with Vala. Lilac_way read and previewed and offered advice and insight and kept me sane when Real Life was kicking my ass. She and Shetiger deserve special thanks for reading the whole sucker all the way through to police the internal continuity. Any remaining mistakes on that front are mine. Zoe Rayne adopted both me and this story early on and kept us both on track.Diglossia and Forcryinoutloud provided coverart, linked below. Monanotlisa and Cpt_Untouchable made icons and Mistokitt and Pentapus contributed art. And a special thank you for everyone who read this story in pieces and hung in there anyway. You comments and encouragment kept me going.
But the person I really owe is Reccea. From concept to coding, she was right there to beta the entire massive thing, write me future fic, calm me down when I was throwing fits, cheer me up when I was emo, and jump up and down with me when I finished. This story is as much hers as it is mine and there's no way I can thank her enough. *hugs*
A Little Bit of History
This story was born in a hotel room, where I was stranded for a work conference. The laptop I was using at the time didn't have wireless (in fact was running Windows 98) and I stayed sane by calling Reccea all hours of the day to talk about SGA. I was flipping through the cable guide when I ran across an advertisement for a remake of Can't Buy Me Love. The original was a movie I'd seen in my pre-teen years. It starred Patrick Dempsey (long before he was McDreamy) as a high school geek who paid the cheerleader next door a thousand dollars to pretend to date him so he could be cool. My issue with the remake was...dude, I am not old enough to watch Hollywood remake my childhood movies. I'm just not. And in the course of bitching about this to Reccea, I explained the plot and that there was a scene in which Patrick Dempsey's character takes the girl to an airplane graveyard. And she said, "Do you know what this sounds like?"
By the time I got back to civilization, I had the first four scenes written out longhand. In retrospect, I should have seen it coming.
Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies is a future story I wrote to follow up on part 3. It's pretty much all porn. :)
Reunions are for Boasting by Reccea is something she wrote for me when I couldn't sleep one night and was entirely verklempt for it. It's set nine years in the future when they're happy, but not perfect.
It's Been A Long Cold Lonely Winter is a little future piece I did. It's mostly fluff and porn.
Five Things You Won't Learn About Will Sheppard From The Best Things in Life are Free is an unsolicted "Five Things..." I did when I was feeling self-indulgent one night.
