The Flash: The first time I met Wally West, I *flirted* with him. Oh, God, is that memory embarrassing! I was totally awe-struck, you have to understand. I’d been studying heroes all my life and suddenly I was *there,* fighting alongside the original JSA against the Ultra-Humanite. Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, Ted Grant, Al Pratt, Charles McNighter–it was like a dream come true. Wally was there too, helping out, and when I got knocked off Green Lantern’s flying platform and literally fell into his arms…. Thank God me never took me up on the invitation, huh? No, the next time he called me—it was for something else. He’d touched the speed force and gotten a vision of the future. He knew, or thought he knew, he wasn’t coming back from a fight with Kobra. So he asked me to be the next Flash. Can you imagine how *honored* I was? To follow in the footsteps of Jay Garrick and Barry Allen, and Wally himself. Well. It turned out that Wally was really using me to inspire Barry’s grandson Bart—Impulse—into taking on the legacy. He’d never meant for me to be the Flash at all. I was furious. I felt *betrayed.* I stayed angry with him for a long, long time. But the thing is… The thing is, I was really a lot more angry at myself. Wally was only the one who offered the temptation. *I* was the one who jumped at the chance to be the Flash, to carry on that legacy…without a thought for my own. For my father. Johnny Quick never got the recognition the Flashes did. And there I stood, his daughter with the same powers and the name to preserve his memory—and I was ready to forget all that for the fame of being the Flash. I’m so sorry, daddy. I’ll never forget again. I’m Jesse Quick; and my powers are my father’s legacy. I forgave Wally. Eventually. When he’s not being a butthead, Wally’s a pretty cool guy. Tempest: Of all the five founding Titans, I know him the least well. But I’m beginning to realize I’m not the only one who doesn’t understand Garth at all. I mean, the man I’ve been working with is nothing like the “Aqualad” I read about in the old case files. Back then he had some super-strength, yeah, but he also had some major limitations about being out of water for any long period of time. He left the team first, and I gather it’s because he felt “useless” even next to nonpowered heroes like Robin and Speedy. But Garth today is nothing like that. He’s got *major* power—that strength, plus heat- and cold-manipulation powers and some kind of magical energy too. Here’s the bit I really don’t understand, though. He’s married, though I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t read his file. He never mentioned it Nightwing: Flat out: I admire the hell out of him. The man does *everything* well. I suspect he can’t help it; partly because he was trained by the Batman, and you don’t *get* any more competent than that. But he’s as driven as… Well. As I am. We recognized that about each other right off. Workaholics, both. If he really *is* the man I met in Bludhaven, the other day—well, wow. He’s as interesting in civvies as he is in costume. I’m not going to do anything about that. I made my decision and I’m gonna stick with it. I’d have given anything to see him in those short pants, though. :) Troia: I like her, a lot. I think it’d be impossible not to. She’s the friendliest, kindest person I’ve ever met. It’s just…her. And it’s not cloying or too sweet at all; she’s just—nice! That bothers her, I think, because of her whole history and being “remade” from Wally’s memories of her. Arsenal: Ohhhhhh, brother! Someone more annoying than Wally. Now *that* takes doing! He’s rude and sexist and he seems to go out his way to needle his teammates, especially Tempest, which doesn’t seem like a bright thing to do. He’s never serious. He never shuts up! But dig under that and Roy Harper’s a great guy. Catch him with his daughter Lian and there’s no doubt about it. And dammit—cute as hell. Not that I’m gonna tell *him* that. I guess Donna thinks so too, because they’re definitely together. It’s a little weird; she’s so…and he’s so…well, opposite. Cyborg: Talk about an enigma. Like Tempest, none of his old teammates seem to know him anymore. He went from being an inner-city kid to a cyborg because an experiment of his father’s went wrong, and then his history gets *really* convoluted. He lost even more of his human appearance and bonded with some kind of alien weapon in outer space, and then finally the Omegadrome—which he’s reshaped to look something like his old human body. I get the feeling Victor’s a pretty normal guy under the shiny metal coating, or would be if all that stuff hadn’t happened. He seems remarkably calm about it, too. Starfire: I don’t understand her. Argent: Damage: Was reading his file, though, and it said something about his DNA coming from the “greatest heroes of the golden age.” Who, I wonder? [Supposed to lead into a bit about Jesse realizing that she was *related* to Grant, and becoming something of a big sister to him.]
