notes: for ii_hanashi, for her prompt for my advent ficalendar. *snugs* actually, i had a different idea, which i may write out some other day... but this fits her request better, anyway. ^_~

He checked the clock quickly. It was time to take the chicken out. The wontons were nearly done. He had to hurry and pull the sake steamed shrimp out, too. He had packed the tazukuri, and the Yule log and petit fours were ready to be...

He swacked Doumeki's hand away from the Yule log's elaborate frosting. "Don't touch that! Just get the boxes for them."

Impassively, Doumeki tried to reach out one more time, but Watanuki just swacked it away again.

"If you're not going to help, just sit down and stay out of the way. Honestly... Yuuko is crazy, a picnic for Christmas this early...! It's going to be like it is every year," he groused. He packed up the shrimp and chicken, and then pulled the wontons off the fire. They looked perfect, of course, but he had to get them out of the oil quickly. "We'll need to stop for sake on the way. I think we should get at least three bottles. With all that Yuuko has, she could bring her own sake. We're not made of money!"

Doumeki sat down as instructed, smiling that annoyingly knowing smile. "If you don't enjoy it, don't do it."

Watanuki just gave him a dirty look. "Easy for you to say," he grumbled. "You don't have to listen to her whining! Anyway, I don't remember her ever asking me for anything! I bet if I didn't do it, she'd end up cursing me." Scowling, he finished putting everything away. He quickly double-checked his inventory, making sure he had everything. Everything but sake. At least five bottles, probably, since they were picnicking in the park again, for heavens knew what reason, it was freezing outside already! He started to untie his apron, and he turned to Doumeki. "You could be more helpful! You're like some sort of leech, you know. Why are you just sitting there? Help me!"

"Would you like me to fold that for you?" Doumeki deadpanned, looking at Watanuki's apron.

Before Watanuki could say anything, though, there was a knock on the door, and Himawari called out, "Boys! Come on, it's time to go!"

"Himawari-chan!" Watanuki bounced, and took off to answer the door, but Doumeki was quicker, jumping to his feet and capturing Watanuki in his arms. "Hey!"

"I wish you wouldn't get so excited to see her. Kimihiro," he complained softly, his lips against Watanuki's skin.

With the heat that was pouring in from Doumeki's body, it wasn't like he could keep resisting. "Idiot. She's our friend. That's... that's all."

"You don't need to work for Yuuko anymore, either," Doumeki continued, ignoring Watanuki. "What you were looking for when you first met her... you have it, right?"

"Well..." Watanuki sagged back into Doumeki's embrace, his eyelids fluttering closed as Doumeki kissed under his ear. He caressed Doumeki's hands gently. "How do you thank someone for something like this, though?" Watanuki turned a bit so he could look into Doumeki's eyes, and he trembled, his lips parted...

"Boys!" Himawari called out, banging on the door more. "Stop making out and answer the door! We're going to be late to Yuuko's party!"

Watanuki pulled away, turning red. "Wh-wh-wh-who is making out?! Who would? One second!"

Doumeki sat back down, and let Watanuki get the door, and pack everything up. Watanuki made him carry it all, though, and he was paying for the sake!

They owed a lot to Yuuko, after all, despite everything.
