She fidgeted, smiling to cover up her nervousness. The kimono she wore was borrowed from Tohru, something her mother used to wear, and it was suitably designed to fit the rebellious attitude that described Uotani and her idol. She felt poorly dressed, though, in comparison to Kureno's modest and easygoing style, but he always made her feel young, and fresh.

She hadn't had to sit still this long in her whole life, but then, she'd never had a proper tea ceremony before, either. When he had heard that, he looked positively stricken, and had promised to rectify the error immediately, but it took six months for him to make good on his promise. She had forgotten, and if she had remembered, she would have assumed he had forgotten.

He never forgot. He just had trouble scheduling it.

He was borrowing the sitting room of a cousin who lived on the edge of town. The sliding doors opened to reveal a placid rock garden, artfully arranged. The room was plain white, with a single calligraphy as decoration, and a square, low table with simple cushions.

She felt more a Yank now than she ever had before.

He smiled at her as he turned the cup the prerequisite number of times. She smiled back, nervous, her hands shaking as she reached for the cup. She lifted it to her lips, and tasted the tea. She hated tea. She put it back down, but she was nervous, and she couldn't remember how many times to turn the cup. In her haste and anxiety, she spilled some tea on the polished wooden table.

"Oh!" She cried out, and sat forward, reaching for the napkin.

"No, let me!" Kureno insisted, reaching for it as well.

Their hands collided, and they upturned the cup and the pot.

"No!" She wailed, just broken hearted.

Kureno laughed, quietly, uncertainly, hiding his laughs behind his hands.

She stared at him, completely baffled. He blushed powerfully under her gaze, and he began to hurriedly wipe up the mess.

She covered his hands with hers, and beamed at him. "Thank you."

"Wh-what?" Kureno blinked.

"I got to see you happy," she sighed, deeply pleased.

Kureno blushed, and shied his eyes away. "You... you are very special, you know?"

"I..." She blushed, just like Tohru. She bit her lip. How stupid! "I... Am I?"

Kureno nodded. "Yes, you are."

"Oh," she smiled.

She liked that.

They cleaned up the tea together, and then they sat in the kitchen and Kureno let Uotani make him coffee.

Hana called her five minutes after she got home, but all said was that she really liked tea ceremonies.
