notes: for sarraceniaceae, for this request on fic on demand. tho, don't really have Fai talking so much about his home world, because... i don't know anything about his home world. whoops. out of timeline, random world story.

Fai lagged behind the group, keeping his own leisurely place. Everyone felt oddly at home in this town. The climate, and open-aired marketplaces, reminded Syaoran and Sakura of their home. It was a big city, like Kurogane's home, and Mokona even liked the food here.

For Fai's part, the mountains in the distance were very familiar. Too familiar.

They'd searched (or wandered, to be more precise) the east sector of the city already, so they were now searching the west side. Fai was a tad bit more bored than normal. He didn't like to move around so much in the heat. It was a nuisance.

Sakura was pulling Syaoran by the arm, and Kurogane was grumbling about something. Mokona was teasing 'Kuro-pon,' and Fai would surely have been joining him, except he heard something that made his blood freeze.

"Fai! What do you think you are doing!?"

He turned, slowly, his heart hammering in his chest. He had thought...

He was about six stalls away. He was much older than Fai's Ashura. His hair was to about halfway down his back, combed very neatly, the sections at his temple pulled back to form a small tail running down the middle of his hair. The perfect inky blackness of his hair was disturbed by streaks of grey, and there were lines around his eyes and mouth. There was an older version of himself, as well, though it was harder to read the signs of age. Ashura grabbed the other him by the waist and pulled him out of the stall, flicking a book out of other Fai's hands as he did. He laughed, keeping his arm around other Fai.

"Just what were you thinking? Didn't you see how angry he was getting?"

Other him just laughed. "But Ash~ur~a! He had them all in the wrong order!"

Ashura laughed. He actually laughed. "I'm sure he did, Fai-love, but it's his stall."

Mokona jumped up and down and pulled on his hair. "Fai! Fai! We're getting behind!"

Fai moved away, just in case Ashura and the other him heard. He plucked Mokona off of his shoulder, and grinned brightly. "Ah, Mokona, go on and stick close to Syaoran, mm? I have something I want to look for."

"Eh?" Mokona asked, his ears drooping.

Fai tossed Mokona along, winking at Kurogane, who was watching him with narrowed eyes. He saluted Kurogane and winked. "I'll catch up with you later."

He slipped down an alley, and double backed around. He caught up to Ashura and other him as Ashura was feeding the other him confections from his fingers. Other him, just as he would, was purposefully tasting as much of Ashura's fingers as he could. The shop girl giggled as Ashura held other him by the waist, and fed him. The other him purred, and pushed his hips closer to Ashura. Ashura's expression became heated, and he pulled the other him away a bit, shoving him up against a wall to kiss him more passionately than Fai had ever been kissed.

"Huh. I guess you know him. You age well," Kurogane huffed.

Fai's eyes widened momentarily, and then he grinned. "Ah, Kuro-tan is saying I'm attractive!"

"Idiot," Kurogane sighed. "I'm saying you look like you are twelve, even when you are fifty."

Ashura was pulling the other him off in the direction of the mountain.

"Is it really all right to be watching them? Mightn't it cause trouble if they spot you?" Kurogane narrowed his eyes, watching as Ashura's hand drifted lower on other Fai's body.

Fai sighed. "There are some people that even you would be hard pressed to just walk by, aren't there?"

Kurogane grunted, and looked away, and Fai smiled. He started off to follow Ashura and the other him, but Kurogane grabbed him by the arm and pulled him into an alley, slammed him against the wall, and attacked his mouth. For a moment, Fai floundered, too surprised by the move, but he didn't let that hold him back for long. Soon, they were clawing at each other as Fai tried to gain purchase on Kurogane's hips.

Kurogane's hands slid up the abbreviated shirt he was wearing, and roamed all over his body. "Let's go back to the house. It'd be better if you forgot all about seeing him, wouldn't it?"

Fai chuckled. "Doing me a favor, are you? Does this mean I owe you?"

"Whatever," Kurogane grumbled, and dragged Fai off in the direction of their temporary home. "Just come."

Laughing, Fai purposefully didn't quite keep up with Kurogane, so he was being half dragged off for sex. "Maybe we'll call it even. I think we'll be doing each other a favor."

Kurogane looked over his shoulder at Fai. "Not everything is about getting something back."

Fai considered that for a moment, and he looked off to the mountain. "At least some versions of me get to be happy," he sighed, too quiet to be heard over the din of the crowd. Kurogane wasn't even listening. Just as well! No point dwelling on silly things.

Fai caught up to Kurogane, and smiled.

He had his own reasons to be happy in this world.
