Heero watched the ball sail into the sky. There was cheering behind him as the runners rounded the bases. The centerfielder backed up, and backed up, and backed up, but he couldn't move fast enough, and the ball landed fifty feet behind him, near the trees. A great whoop! went up in the crowd, and Duo jauntily rounded third, needing to pace himself so that he didn't overtake the runner ahead of him.

It had been the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, man on third and first, and they had been behind by two. Heero knew the outcome of the game as soon as the batter before Duo had struck out.

The two teams shook hands amicably, and Duo's teammates patted his back and hugged him and kissed him. Well. Only one of his teammates kissed him, and Duo had assured Heero that Hilde was like a sister, so she didn't count. Heero still watched the girl closely. Duo might say sister, but Heero was pretty sure that Hilde would be watching them leave together with disappointment.

Heero didn't move, preferring to watch the world spin by him. People were gathering up chairs and coolers, making their way over to where the big barbeque was going to be held. The L2 planning commission was going to have fireworks starting at midnight, and beforehand, they were showing a few movies in the park. Heero stayed by the fence, where he had watched the whole game, and waited.

It never took long. Duo trotted over to him, his braid swinging wildly. He looked damn cute in his little shorts, but Heero would die a thousand deaths before he said so. Duo would never forgive him.

"We won." Duo smiled, putting his hands on the chain links right under Heero's arms.

"I saw." Heero leaned over the fence, gently kissing the game winning hitter. "Good hit."

"I know," Duo shrugged with mock arrogance.

Heero grinned. "So this is New Year's Eve, huh?"

"Welcome to L2, where the weather never lets up, guaranteed." Duo flashed a grin as he rolled his eyes, his humor showing.

Heero leaned closer, and took a longer kiss. "Come walk with me."

"Wherever and whenever, m'love." Duo jogged around the fence, taking Heero's hand as soon as it was within reach.

They walked in the opposite direction of all the people, heading into the trees. The forest began sparsely, and got thicker the longer they walked. They were getting further and further away from the habitable portions of the colony, breaching into the planned foliage, which supplied the oxygen for the colony. L2 had very few environmental controls, so these forests governed their climate. The temperature remained seasonably warm at all times, for optimal plant respiration, and it rained quite frequently, and unpredictably. Duo loved the occasional showers of cycling water, but Heero was still getting used to the smell of it.

Still, this was Heero's favorite part of L2. It didn't take long before the sounds of the city, the sounds of the colony, even, were muted to nothing, and, as they threaded their way through the trees, it felt like they were the only people in all of creation.

Heero loved that feeling best of all.

Duo was chatting easily. It didn't matter that Heero wasn't contributing to the conversation, because Duo was supplying both ends. His voice was soothing and sweet, and his stories were funny, and Heero liked not having to work so hard to keep the peace between them. He watched Duo talk, the animation in his eyes as his story got to the good part, the way his cheeks were pinked from the game, still, the slight upturn in his nose, and the point to his chin...

Heero's chest felt very big, and his ribs very tight, and he couldn't help himself anymore.

He slipped his hand down Duo's back, under his shorts, so he could cup the soft flesh of Duo's ass. It was like his nerve endings had suddenly been put on fire; he needed more. He roughly shoved Duo against a tree, and attacked his mouth, grabbing at any bit of flesh or skin he could get.

Duo rode out the wave of his passion, meeting him bite for bite and scratch for scratch, until they were both mussed.

Heero pulled away abruptly, as if he had been dropped back into his own skin. He licked his lips, shocked at the metallic tinge to the taste. He looked up at Duo, startled.

Duo put his hands on Heero's arms and began to rub, up and down. "Relax, relax, it's ok..."

Heero winced, reaching up to put one finger on Duo's bleeding lip. "I'm so sorry..."

"No, forget it, it's fine..."

"It's not fine," Heero insisted, wanting to pull away, to berate himself. "You're hurt."

Duo didn't let him pull away. He moved with him. "Forget it. I don't care. You didn't hurt me, Heero."

Every time, every damn time, Heero tried so hard to remember himself, remember his strength, but he just... "I don't know what comes over me. Sometimes, I just... I just can't control it, I feel... swept away..."

"Do you know how that makes me feel?" Duo's eyes were bright, his cheeks flushed with excitement. It stirred Heero's blood powerfully. "To know that you desire me like that, that you're always a hair's breath away from just... crashing into me? God, Heero, don't ever apologize for it! I freakin' love it!"

Heero felt himself relenting, and he didn't want to. He didn't like finding bruises on Duo's body, or hearing Duo make jokes about how clumsy he can be to his friends and coworkers.

Duo put his arms around Heero's neck, and brought himself flush against Heero. A haze covered Heero's thoughts.

"Hell, I feel it, too, you know. I'm right there with you, loving every second of it. Half of me wants you to strip me bare and fuck me raw up against that tree right now..."

Heero shuddered, feeling his body come to new life. He put his arms around Duo's waist to steady himself as Duo nibbled on his earlobe. "That... that's not a good idea, though, right? Because... because..."

"We'd regret it later. Me more'n you." Duo laughed ruefully, running his fingertips through Heero's hair.

"I'm not so sure," Heero murmured, backing Duo up against the tree carefully. "I keep thinking... that I almost lost you..." He picked up Duo's arm, and kissed the spider webs of faint scars that covered his forearm.

Duo sighed, leaning his head back. "Heero. The crash was ages ago. I'm fine. I'm not going anywhere. You did way worse to yourself during the war."

"That was different," Heero argued, nearly silently. "We were fighting then. This..." He lowered himself to his knees, lifting the hem of Duo's shirt. He kissed the long, jagged, white line that stretched across Duo's belly. "This was from living."

"Heero..." Duo sighed, patting the top of Heero's head. "It brought you to me. Who knows how long you would have drifted, aimless, if you didn't have to come and nurse me back to health?"

Heero shuddered, memory washing over him, and it became very important that Duo feel good. "Let me give you pleasure..."

It wasn't like Duo was going to deny it, though he didn't quite expect Heero to rip his shorts and boxers down so quickly. He started to laugh, looking around at all the trees, too many things filling his head, until all he could do was laugh, and sag against the tree.

Heero pushed Duo's hands out of the way. "Put your hands above your head."

Duo nodded, his heart rate spiking. He put his hands on top of his head, ready to do and feel exactly what Heero required of him.

Heero put his hands on Duo's hips, holding himself steady as he prepared for his task. "Duo... don't make a sound."

Duo nodded again, allowing Heero this measure of control, knowing what Heero needed as much as Heero knew what he needed.

It hurt, to keep it in. To swallow his moans and hold back his cries. To keep his hands on his head as his body was wracked with wave after wave of pleasure. To bite his lip to keep from crying out.

Heero watching him hold it in, his heart swelling with unidentifiable emotions he classified as 'love.'

Duo grinned down at Heero goofily. "C'n I do anything fer ya, buddy?"

"Nope," Heero smiled shyly, "I'm saving it for later."

"Oh, really?" Duo laughed. "You think there's a 'later'?"

Heero stood up, took Duo's head in his hand, and kissed him with all that he had. "There's always later."
